Quercetin with Super Strength Aloe Vera (90caps)
Quercetin belongs to a class of antioxidants called flavonoids that give fruits and vegetables their bright colors. Flavonoids support capillary wall stability and healthy collagen development, balance immune response, and provide cardiovascular protection by reducing the oxidation of LDL cholesterol.
Because IC/PBS patients tend to avoid many of the foods that contain flavonoids due to their high acid levels, it is recommended to supplement a healthy portion of these fruits and vegetables with quercetin instead which is less likely to cause urinary or stomach distress.
Mast cells have been found to be raised in patients suffering from IC. As a result, IC bladders also contain about double as much histamine as a healthy bladder. Histamine plays a role in inflammation. Quercetin has been shown to inhibit the release of histamines and other immune mediators which are thought to play a part in some IC/PBS and nonbacterial prostatitis patients’ symptoms including nocturia, daytime frequency, pain, burning, pressure, and pain with sex, especially in those with a history of allergies, migraines and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
Quercetin also decreases production of the COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes that cause systemic inflammation. It has been shown in studies to be an anti-inflammatory agent.
Quercetin is the anti-histamine component in Cysta-Q (Farr Laboratories) and CystoProtek (Algonot), both studied for IC/PBS with successful results.
