What is the difference between D-mannose and cranberry?

D-mannose is a simple sugar naturally found in many fruits such as apples, oranges, pineapples and cranberries. It has been clinically proven to bind to bacteria in the bladder and help to flush away bacteria when you urinate. It has been shown effective against e.coli which is a common culprit of UTIs.

D-mannose stops gram-negative bacteria from clinging to the bladder walls and has been helpful for reducing UTI symptoms. It has a soothing effect on the bladder and is considered a great non-antibiotic solution for UTI. D-mannose is readily available all around the world and has been trusted by physicians and naturopathic practitioners for many years.

Cranberries contain proanthocyanidins (PACs) which is a micronutrient. This is also meant to prevent UTIs because it stops bacteria from sticking to the bladder walls. It's important to note that not all cranberry supplements contain PACs. Studies have shown that cranberry juice is not actually effective for an active infection as you'd need to consume a substantial amount of raw cranberry juice to have the right potency. Cranberry juice is digested into the stomach and may not reach the bladder in a timely manner, it also creates an acidic environment which does not benefit people with an already sensitive bladder.

Dr. Melanie Crites-Bachert from Pelvis Health Institute starts the discussion about recurring UTI's and how to approach them. Super informative, please watch.
